heart and soul of any direct
mail package. The letter is
where you speak directly to
your prospect, or talk to
your customer. No other form
of advertising offers such a
direct, personal link
between the advertiser and
the consumer. Take advantage
of this opportunity. Ensure
that your letter looks like
a letter. Make sure you tell
the whole story and be sure
to communicate all the
benefits. Ideally, the
letter copy should:

Promise a
benefit in your headline
or first paragraph -
make sure it's your most
important benefit;

Immediately expand upon
your most important
benefit;

Tell the
reader specifically what
they are going to get;
-
Back up
your statements with
proof and endorsements;
-
Tell the
reader what they might
lose by not taking
action;
-
Rephrase
your prominent benefits
in your closing offer;
-
Incite
action.
Tip:
Have your letter include a
P.S. (postscript). The
majority of people will read
the P.S. before anything
else, so it's best to state
your offer again. |
